Nintendo Raises Switch 2 Sales Forecast to 19 Million Units After Strong Launch
Nintendo has revised its sales forecast for the Switch 2 gaming console upward to 19 million units for the fiscal year ending March 2026, a significant increase from its previous projection of 15 million units. The adjustment follows a robust launch, with 10.36 million units sold since its release in June 2025. The hybrid home-portable device has outperformed expectations, driving a 270% year-on-year surge in net profit to 102.9 billion yen for the quarter ending September 30.
The company's operating profit forecast has also been raised by 16% to 370 billion yen ($2.45 billion), reflecting stronger-than-anticipated demand. Revenue for the quarter reached 527.2 billion yen ($3.7 billion), surpassing market estimates of 461.76 billion yen. Nintendo has instructed manufacturing partners to prepare for production of up to 25 million units by March 2026, signaling confidence in sustained momentum.
Software sales have complemented hardware performance, with 20.62 million units sold. Titles like 'Mario Kart World' and 'Donkey Kong Bananza' have led the charge, moving 9.57 million and 3.49 million units respectively. The console's success arrives amid a volatile global trade environment, demonstrating Nintendo's resilience in navigating macroeconomic headwinds.
